UPP Direct
UPP files are selected at random from a pool of pending European patent applications claiming priority from one of the pilot offices and where the national application has already been published. The EPO will retrieve copies of the publicly available search report and/or written examination reports (opinions) produced by the national office for the initial national application. It will also inform applicants if their European patent applications are being dealt with under the UPP. No additional action on the applicant's part is required.
The applications selected for the UPP are handled with a higher priority than standard European filings. The results of the search may consequently be issued earlier than would otherwise be expected.
