Dear members of the PATLIB community,
We are pleased to invite you to submit a paper on one of the main topics of PATLIB2008 listed below:
- Networking beyond PATLIB
In today's global patent environment, international partnerships and collaborations are key to the success of a PATLIB centre. It is no longer a rarity to see PATLIB centres forming cross-border partnerships with organisations such as technology transfer centres, financial institutions, innovation centres, universities, trade organisations, etc.. Reports on such partnership models will be interesting for all participants.
- Skills, training and tools
Information is becoming more freely available and yet users very often fail to make the best use of the information made available to them and to exploit it strategically. To be in a position to bring this added-value service to users, PATLIB centres must possess excellent knowledge of all tools and services available. Contributions which report on the type of training, skills and tools (and their use) are welcome.
- Funding strategies for PATLIB centres, including EU funded opportunities
The funding of PATLIB centres remains an issue of high interest: where do PATLIB centres get financial support from, the national patent office, the EC, other partners? Are there any self-funding centres in the network? Which services are currently charged for? How can you find a suitable pricing concept for your services? We would like to call for contributions presenting successful funding models for the centres (e.g. fully or partly self-supporting or fund raising from other sources).
- Consultancy services.
Many PATLIB centres are moving away from the "classic" role of information dissemination to become IP consultants. The goal of this session is to examine this new role of the PATLIB centres and to determine its impact on the future of the PATLIB network. We invite contributions presenting the challenges and opportunities of being an IP consultant, as well as examples of best practice. Case studies are particularly welcome and we will be pleased to invite your client to present along side you at PATLIB2008.
All patent information centres are invited to submit a paper related to one of the topics mentioned above.
Should you wish to discuss your presentation prior to submission, please contact either the PATLIB2008 committee member for your country or send an e-mail to the EPO Patlib Team.
Please fill in the enclosed form and return it to the committee member for your country.
Your submission must reach the committee member for your country before 10 December 2007.
Your submission will be reviewed by a selection committee (PATLIB2008 Committee and PATLIB team) and you will be notified in January 2008 of the decision of the committee. Papers will be selected by the committee according to the criteria of relevance, timeliness and level of interest.
Please note: authors of selected papers will be expected to supply their complete presentation approximately 8 weeks prior to the event!
