Legally qualified member of the boards of appeal (INT/EXT/4576)
The European Patent Office in Munich is seeking a legally qualified member of the boards of appeal *

Under the European Patent Convention, the EPO boards of appeal have final-instance jurisdiction over the grant of European patents.
Main duties
A board member's main duties are as follows:
- Participation in all written and
oral procedural stages before the boards of appeal, up to and including the
decision terminating the proceedings. As rapporteur: making proposals about taking evidence and communications to
parties. Preparing draft decisions, including all related tasks.
- Helping to train new board members
and assistants.
- Tasks relating to the organisation and working methods of DG 3.
Candidates must have a diploma of completed law studies at university level or - in exceptional cases - equivalent knowledge and expertise acquired over many years of professional experience. They must also have a special aptitude for judicial work. Very high standards of performance are expected.
Candidates should also have worked in the field of patent law, and have practical experience as judges, patent agents, or legal or technical advisers in public administration or industry.2&jobLO=Munich&jobRA=15&jobTI=Legally%20qualified%20member%20of%20the%20boards%20of%20appeal They should preferably be between 45 and 55 years of age.
Candidates must be fluent in at least one of the EPO official languages** and have a good knowledge of the other two.
