Operations Analyst (INT/EXT/4589)

The European Patent Office in The Hague is seeking an Operations Analyst ( Supervisor/ Head of Section)  *

in Directorate 2.7.3.1 - Operational Services

The Information Management department of the European Patent Office is a highly respected, 600 strong team with a professional and pro-active focus on supporting the different business processes of the EPO. Its services relate to a large patent collection of 60 Mio documents, with highly comprehensive search engines and document retrieval systems. The technical environment of the EPO is characterised by an extensive network (LAN-WAN-Internet), 270 TB of data storage, a 3 tier-based application architecture and 10.000 user workstations.

The IM Operational Services Directorate comprises five teams, one of which, the so-called OAD (Operational Acceptance and Deployment) Team, with some 4 Permanent & 16 Contract staff, is responsible for ensuring the stability and the deployment of software in a three-tier based operational environment.

Main Duties:

  1. Defining, reviewing & enhancing methods & procedures for the efficient & effective running of automation processes (system testing, operational testing, deployment and daily operation) in a three-tier based operational environment.
  2. Providing support for the procedures and processes underpinning the Office's Software Development Life Cycle.
  3. Ensuring new/changed applications conform to operational standards.
  4. Undertaking Operational Systems Acceptance Testing of applications in a pre-production environment.
  5. Developing usage of automated tools to perform OSA testing
  6. Deploying application software in all Change Controlled environments
  7. Monitoring system performance and tuning.
  8. Introduction of a new standardised JCL philosophy, based on E-GEN.

Requirements:

  • At least five years experience of the z/OS (OS/390) Operating Systems and excellent JCL knowledge.
  • At least three years experience of working with three-tier based applications with CICS DB/2 back-end, Websphere or jBoss on AIX or Linux middle tier, Windows/2000 and Web GUIs.
  • Experience of having worked with formalised Change Management Procedures and Products.
  • Recent experience with the following products would be an asset :
    OPEN/MVS, CICS, DB/2, TWS (OPC), Tivoli Service Desk, ISPF, SCLM, BETA92/93, REXX, PIPES, XML, PAPYRUS, Test Director, Loadrunner, CVS, Rational Functional tester, SAS Product, SAP Product

Minimum qualifications:

Completed secondary education is normally required, together with a diploma of post-secondary professional training, or equivalent professional experience acquired over many years of work. Eight years' relevant experience. Working knowledge of the official languages** .
