Permanent employees of the EPO enjoy the prospect of a long-term, stable career. They work in a stimulating, multilingual environment and acquire expertise in their specialised area and the patent system.
New members of staff have to pass a probationary period before their employment is confirmed. Both the EPO and the employee are free to terminate the contract during this period.
Remuneration comprises a competitive basic salary and attractive allowances, which vary according to an employee's individual circumstances and family situation. Salaries and allowances fall under the EPO's internal tax system and are exempt from national income tax.
EPO employees are entitled to 30 days' annual leave. Expatriate staff receive eight additional days' home leave every two years, plus travelling time and expenses for the employee and his or her immediate family.
The EPO has a social committee called the Amicale which organises a variety of social, cultural and sports activities in The Hague, Munich, Vienna and Berlin.
