Structural reorganisation in patent examination 

With its most extensive structural re-organisation to date in search, examination and documentation plus support and IT services, the Office last year again took significant steps to improve its performance in core activities. Having completed the unification of search and substantive examination, it now hopes to achieve further synergy gains in terms of internal harmonisation and quality management by grouping all its patent examiners in one directorate-general, DG Operations. It also expects to enhance examining efficiency by merging support and documentation services and some IT units in DG Operational Support.
