"Search Matters 2008": patent searching with the experts from the EPO

The Hague -- How can patent searchers in industry work most effectively?  What tools and strategies work best in each technology area?  How can we harness the growing data sources of East Asia?

The patent examiners of the European Patent Office (EPO) will be answering these questions and more when they share their know-how at the two-day industry seminar "Search Matters 2008" organised by the EPO on 7 and 8 April in The Hague. There are 250 places at the event which specifically caters for the needs of industry search professionals from the biotechnology, pharmacy, computing and industrial, pure and applied chemistry sectors.

A limited number of early registrants will be lucky enough to book an afternoon meeting with an EPO examiner for a one-to-one discussion of search issues in a specific technical area of their choice.

Effective and thorough patent searching lies at the heart of the examination procedure at the EPO and is the corner stone of the legal certainty of European patents. This seminar provides patent search specialists from industry with unrivalled access to the know-how and talent of EPO patent examiners, as well as privileged insights into the EPO's patent documentation strategy and search policy. Lectures in the latest developments in patent classification, search tools and databases will be complemented by a range of workshops, presented by highly experienced examiners and other experts covering such search topics as non-patent literature, East Asian databases, sequences in biotech, small peptides, Markush formulae, catalysts and computer-based inventions.

The full programme of the Search Matters 2008 seminar, the abstracts of over 30 lectures and workshops, as well as registration details are available here.

Please note that applications will be dealt with at a first-come-first-served basis. Closing date is 29 February at the latest.
