Proceedings of the "Public symposium on patents, designs, trademarks, denominations of origin: Strategic tools for the protection of products and processes in the food industry", jointly organised by the Italian Patent and Trademark Office, the Industrialists' Association of Verona, the EPO and other partners (Verona, 28/29.06.2004). The collected contributions address the strategic importance of patents, trademarks and denominations of origin for the management of innovative food. A subsequent workshop dealt with search and examination of European patent applications in the field of biotechnology, in particular documentation, classification, patentability criteria, case law and claim drafting. These contributions are also included.
