European Inventor of the Year 2008 - lifetime achievement
The Belgian inventor was honoured in 2008 in the category "lifetime achievement" for his landmark contributions to antiviral treatment, including the development of the drug cocktail for AIDS.

About the award
In 2006, the EPO and European Commission came together for the first time to honour inventors who had made a significant contribution to innovation in Europe. Awards are presented in four categories.
