Training resources for the pre-examination of the European qualifying examination
The pre-examination paper was held for the first time in 2012. It consists of ten multiple-choice questions on legal aspects and ten on claims drafting. Each question has four sub-questions and each sub-question must be answered either "true" or "false". The time allowed is four hours.
The legal questions test your knowledge of fundamental aspects of patent law, particularly the articles and rules of the EPC and PCT, as well as the decisions of the EPO's Enlarged Board of Appeal.
The drafting questions test your knowledge of novelty, inventive step, clarity and the basis for amendments.
The provisions governing the pre-examination paper are set out in Rule 10 of the Implementing provisions to the Regulation on the European qualifying examination (IPREE).
