In its second year, the European Inventor of the Year awards were held in conjunction with the European Patent Forum in Munich on 18 April, at which German Chancellor Angela Merkel gave a keynote speech. Outstanding creative achievements were honoured in the four categories:
- Industry
- Small-Medium research institutes
- Non-European Inventors, and
- Lifetime Achievement.
