The Five IP Offices (IP5)

Organisation profile

European Patent Office

Poster content

The Five IP Offices (IP5) is the co-operation between EPO, JPO, KIPO, SIPO and USPTO, with WIPO participating as observer.  The IP5 Offices account for approximately 90% of all patent applications filed worldwide. The IP5 co-operation has already yielded important products and services such as the IP5 Common Citation Document available under ccd.fiveipoffices.org which allows users to access the citation data from the five offices for a family of patent applications. The yearly publication of the IP5 Statistics report provides users with detailed figures of the patenting activity in the five offices.

The Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) between EPO and USPTO is a related activity. In 2013, the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) of the People's republic of China as well as the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) of Korea decided to start classifying some of their patent publications using the CPC.
