Flying to Istanbul

The Atatürk International Airport, Istanbul (IST) is about 26 km south west of Istanbul’s city centre. It is Turkey’s biggest airport by total number of passengers.

In 2013 it served 45 million passengers making it the 17th busiest airport in the world in terms of total passenger traffic and the 10th busiest in the world in terms of international passenger traffic, ranking just below Munich Airport. ─░stanbul Atatürk Airport was named Airport of the Year and Europe's Best Airport in the 40-50 million passenger-per-year category at the 2013 Skytrax World Airport Awards.

Travelling from airport to hotel

We would recommend to take a taxi to the hotel as public transport gets very crowded.

However, please be aware that particularly in the tourist areas (Taksim Square) we advise you to:

  • Insist on meter being switched on
  • Note the car registration
  • Ask the taxi drivers to inform you before the journey about the approximate fee you are going to pay

The trip from the airport to the Grand Cevahir Hotel should amount to approximately 50 to 60 Turkish Lira (about EUR 17 – 21).

The distance from the airport to the conference hotel is between 26,3 and 32,8 km depending on the route taken (we recommend to take the E80 or the 0-3 as the motorway is the quickest) Please note that depending on the traffic the trip can take up to 45 – 60 minutes.
