Free patent databases

Even if you're not looking to patent anything yourself right now, patents are still important. Don't be afraid of other people's patents, but make sure you're aware of them and know how to act.

The EPO's patent databases are free to use via the Espacenet service. They contain well over 80 million patent documents from around the world.

You can use Espacenet to see what other people are working on, and what other people have protected using patents.
