22 March 2016
The staff and the management of the European Patent Office are deeply shocked and saddened by the abhorrent terrorist attacks which took place in Brussels today, 22 March 2016.
Brussels and the European institutions it hosts are symbols of our shared values of cultural diversity, tolerance and mutual respect. Today's unspeakable tragedy will not undermine the peace, stability and humanity fostered by the citizens of Europe.
As a truly European organisation, the European Patent Office believes in an open and inclusive society based on fundamental principles of freedom, equality and justice. We therefore condemn prejudice, hatred and terrorism; and we stand steadfast with the people of Brussels, of Belgium and with all Europeans.
We express our sincere condolences to all those affected by the cowardly attacks in Brussels and our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the victims, their relatives and their friends.
