The EPO has announced the 15 inventors short-listed for this prestigious prize – pioneers in a range of areas from automotive safety and communications to environment and medical technology.
Patent applications at the EPO grew by 4.8% last year, reaching a new record high. The top countries of origin were the US, Germany, Japan, France and the Netherlands.
A new report published by the EPO and the UNEP shows that the number of inventions in climate change mitigation technologies worldwide has increased almost fivefold between 1995 and 2011.
