> D > E > F 67 Jirˇi Georg Dokoupil Komposition mit Früchten, 1992 180 x 30 x 31 cm Bronze Jirˇi Georg Dokoupil (* 1954 Knrov, CZ) est un de ces artistes contem porains irréductibles à un courant artistique ou à une tendance don née. Son œuvre multiforme, la diversité des média avec lesquels il travaille l’interdisent. Il travaille le bronze tout comme il a recours à des objets trouvés et à des den rées alimentaires – des pneus au tomobiles au lait maternel – ou encore il applique la peinture sur la toile au moyen d’un fouet. Kom position mit Früchten est une réfé rence à l’histoire de la sculpture en bronze. Ses bananes superpo sées en bronze évoquent la Co lonne sans fin de l’artiste roumain Constantin Brancus¸i. Depuis Andy Warhol, la banane est par ailleurs devenue un symbole courant dans l’art, et le reste encore a jourd’hui, comme par exemple dans l’œuvre de Tilman Baumgärtel, qui met en réseau des villes entières en sprayant des bananes sur des murs d’im meubles et des trottoirs. L’œuvre Komposition mit Früchten est elle aussi un clin d’œil à l’histoire de l’art et au lien qui s’est établi entre culture élitaire et culture populaire. Jirˇi Georg Dokoupil (* 1954 Knrov, CZ) gehört zu jenen Künstlern der Gegenwart, die sich kaum fest legen lassen auf eine bestimmte künstlerische Strömung oder eine konkrete Richtung. Dafür ist sein Werk zu vielgestaltig, dafür arbei tet Dokoupil mit zu unterschiedli chen Medien:Er setzt Bronze genau so ein wie Fundstücke und Nah rungsmittel – vom Autoreifen bis zur Muttermilch – oder bringt mit Peitschenhieben Farbe auf die Lein wand. In Komposition mit Früchten knüpft Dokoupil an die Geschichte der Bronzeplastik an. In Form von übereinandergesetzten Bananen aus Bronze erinnert er an die Endlose Säule des rumänischen Künstlers Constantin Brâncus¸i. Die Banane ist zudem seit Andy Warhol ein po puläres Symbol der Kunst, das bis heute verbreitet ist – wie beispiels weise durch Tilman Baumgärtel, der über die an Häuserwände und Gehsteige gesprayte Banane ganze Städte miteinander vernetzt. Auch Dokoupils Komposition mit Früch ten zitiert augenzwinkernd die Ge schichte der Kunst und die Verbin dung von Hoch- und Populärkultur. His tow er of bronze bananas stacked one on top of the other calls to mind the Endless Column of the Romanian artist Constantin Brâncus¸i.The ba nana has been a popular symbol in art ever since AndyWarhol,and is still widely used today – for example in the work of Tilman Baumgärtel, who networks entire cities with bananas sprayed on the walls of houses and footpaths. Dokoupil’s Komposition mit Früchten is also a tongue-in-cheek reference to the history of art and the connection be tween high and popular culture.
