Payment of designation fees

The applicant must pay one designation fee for each (designated) EPC contracting state in which he seeks patent protection at the time the payment is made. For the joint designation of Switzerland and Liechtenstein, only one designation fee is due.

The designation fees are deemed paid for all (designated) EPC contracting states upon payment of seven times the amount of the designation fee. Where less than seven designation fees are paid, the applicant must indicate for which states he is paying the designation fees. This can be indicated in Form 1200, Section 10.2. A later change of mind must be communicated at the latest simultaneously with the actual payment (see also Form 1200, Section 10.3).
