In many cases patent searchers need to access procedural and legal status data directly, rather than carry out a technical search first and then access the target data, indirectly. The EPO's integrated search package, Register Plus, provides direct access to both European Patent Register, i.e. procedural data on-line, and to Online Public File Inspection. It also allows you to access the data in esp@cenet and Open Patent Services (patent family information and INPADOC legal status). WebRegMT is an online alerting service that allows users to monitor the development of patent applications at the EPO in a secure and personalised environment.
Simple and advanced search masks allow the Register Plus user to build up progressively complex searches to find procedural data on patent applications at the EPO. Documents and correspondence relating to particular applications can be inspected. Register Plus allows these documents and correspondence to be batch processed downloaded and stored offline for later study. Further features of Register Plus are the links to esp@cenet. Open EP or WO applications can be viewed in esp@cenet and also all prior art documents cited in EP procedures can be opened in esp@cenet from Register Plus. This offers a very powerful means of accessing the technical content of the worldwide patent database from European procedural and legal status data.
WebRegMT allows users to set up a customised alerting service that provides information on the sequence of events in the life of patent applications at the EPO. Users may monitor up to 250 specified individual cases. The "most recent" events in the life of an application are available as headline information. Users may opt for an e-mail alert each time an event occurs in a file of interest. Users can elect to monitor not only their own files, but also third party applications, and they may choose one of two of security options to ensure confidentiality.
