ESPACE EP-A

Désolé. Actuellement, cette page n'existe pas en français.

Content description

ESPACE EP-A contains bibliographic data, full text and embedded facsimile images of European patent applications.

It includes searchable titles in English, French and German. The abstract, the complete description and the claims can be searched in the language of the procedure. References to the PCT publication number for Euro-PCT documents are available.
A pilot index gives reference to the documents published in the previous 5 years. The international applications published by the WIPO, and not re-published according to art. 158 EPC, are listed in a separate file.

Recommended use

ESPACE EP-A is suitable as an archive system of European patent applications and for carrying out off-line state-of-the-art searches on EP applications. Due to its frequency of publication and indexed fields it is also a good tool for performing follow-up searches.

Type of documents
EP-A1, A2, A3 European patent applications and
EP-A8 and A9 corrected European patent applications.

Details about EP-A collection

  • From 1978 to 1999 publications format used was Patsoft (image).
  • From 2000 onwards format used is mixed mode (text in SGML combined with image in TIFF format).
Please note that from 1991 onwards search report (A3) are included on the discs.
A3 publications prior to 1991 (number range from EP0000001 to 0398097 ) have been published as a separate backlog on 3 DVD volumes (2003/201;2003/202;2003/203).
All search reports are only available as TIFF images.

Following the decision of the President in the Official Journal 07/2006, the references cited by the applicant in the description are now made available at the end of the patent documents since 13 September 2006.

Special features

The data and images are fully downloadable, bibliographic data in XML (2006 to date) and SGML (2000-2005) and images in TIFF format. Using MIMOSA retrieval software, the applications can be downloaded or printed.

To reproduce the originally published paper document, the applications are also stored in PDF format, which can be printed by the MIMOSA software using Acrobat Reader.

Nucleotide or amino and sequence listings are stored in separate ASCII textfiles with the extension TXT.

Publication of sequence listing by the EPO: see decision of the President of the European Patent Office dated 2 October 1998 (OJ 11/1998). European patent applications which, on filing, contain a sequence listing or consist of more than four hundred pages may be published in electronic form only, at present for example on esp@cenet and ESPACE EP. On request, the European Patent Office shall also make them available on another suitable medium: view list

All the different data formats of the applications (XML, SGML, TIFF, PDF, TXT files) can be accessed directly. The locations of the files are listed in the open index file 'exchange.idx' stored in the root directory of each disc.

Hyperlinks are included on every document which allow access the complete document, its family members, ECLA etc..on esp@cenet and the IPC on the WIPO website.
