Newsflash 19/2007
In order to avoid an overlap in the different number series for Chinese A, C and Y documents, the Chinese patent office has decided to extend the number format from 7 to 9 digits. This has caused some delay in the processing of Chinese documents. Since week 47/2007 the loading process has re-commenced.
A documents: have come close to number 1999999. In order to avoid ambiguity with the CN Y numbers which are in the 2000000 series, two additional positions have been inserted behind the leading "1" indicating the IPR right "patent". This is effective from publication date 2007-07-18 onwards.
Y documents: numbers were close to pass 2999999 and thus collide with the design patents which rank in the 3000000 series. The two additional positions have been inserted behind the leading "2" indicating the IPR right "utility model" from publication date 2007-08-29 onwards.
C documents: in order to harmonise with the number format of A and Y documents and to avoid future collisions with the utility model series, two additional positions have been inserted behind the leading "1" indicating the IPR right "patent" from publication date 2007-08-29 onwards.
| Kind code | New format | Type of document | Valid from |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 1nnnnnnnn | Unexamined application | 18.7.2007 |
| C | 1nnnnnnnn | Granted patent | 29.8.2007 |
| Y | 2nnnnnnnn | Granted utility model | 29.8.2007 |
The change over to the new formats began with the following numbers:
CN A records started from number 100998275
CN C records started from number 100333628
CN Y records started from number 200938735
Please note that there are still some CN A documents of the old seven digits number format contained for publication date 2007-07-18, eg CN1998277A. These cases will be re-keyed in due course.
