The EPO extends its coverage of Latin American countries in the bibliographic database
Intellectual property of the Latin American countries have in recent years gained increasing importance and have resulted in a new surge of interest in the patent rights of these countries.
The nations of this geopolitical region have been putting a lot of effort into improving their intellectual property systems to attract worldwide interest in patent protection here.
The EPO, in close co-operation with the OEPM (Spanish Patent Office), worked on a project that accumulated the LATIPAT data collections in a well known MIMOSA based product of the EPO.
This project is being taken to new level to include the countries in these collections in the worldwide bibliographic data of the EPO, i.e. esp@cenet and DOCDB XML.
Apart from the data collections of AR, BR, MX and UY which are already available in the EPO databases, bibliographic data from Costa Rica (CR) and El Salvador (SV) are being added to the collection and will be available from week 51/2008 onwards. Also new to the EPO collection is data from Peru (PE) which will be uploaded in week 52/2008.
In addition, data from Cuba which had not been updated from 1996, will be re-introduced in the database from week 51/2008 onwards.
Countries that are future candidates for bibliographic data acquisition are:
CL - Chile
CO - Colombia
EC - Ecuador
GT - Guatemala
NI - Nicaragua
PA - Panama
The schedule for the uploading of their data is to be announced when all the formalities and preparations have been completed.
Kind codes, data ranges and number formats for the countries to be included from week 51/2008 onwards are available in the tables below:
