ASEAN: update on developments of the patent system in Brunei Darussalam

As announced in an earlier update, the Patents Order 2011 and Patents Rules 2012 entered into force in Brunei on 1 January  2012 and the first patent application was filed on 4 January 2012. This marks the establishment of an independent patent system in the country.

Subsequently, a full-fledged intellectual property office (BruIPO), in charge of patents, industrial designs and trade marks, was established in mid-2013. The corresponding website is provided in English language and offers access to the laws, statistics, forms and fees and other useful information. The monthly online journals of patent applications and designs can also be browsed online in PDF format, starting with the issue 2014/01.
