Korea: Sharp increase in international filings and searches

According to an evaluation by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), the number of PCT applications submitted in Korea rose by 8.0% from 9,639 filings in 2010 to 10,412 applications in 2011. As Korean has been accepted as official PCT language since 2009, most applications were filed in Korean (80.6%), while only one out of five filings was submitted in English (19.4%).

Moreover, also the number of requests for international searches submitted to KIPO by foreign applicants rose considerably by 13.3% from 13,877 in 2010 to 15,717 in 2011.
