Korea: KIPO publishes preliminary filing statistics for 2011

According to provisional results of a study about current filing trends, the number of IP applications in Korea last year increased by 6.3% compared to 2010. The number of patent filings (179,687) rose by 5.6% while trade mark applications (124,000) grew even faster by 14.3%.

With regard to patent filings submitted by foreigners, applications by individual applicants rose by 10.1% while filings by foreign corporations increased by 8.4%.

On the other hand, filings for utility models continued to decrease by 13.1%, and also designs witnessed a slight decline by 1.2% compared to the previous year.
