On 8 February 2012, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the Intellectual Property Offices of the Member States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held their First Heads of Intellectual Property Offices Meeting. Both sides confirmed the importance of strengthening the protection of IP rights. A "Tokyo IP Statement" was adopted which describes specific actions to be taken. In the future, such meetings will be held on a regular basis.
