Korea: Considerable increase in patent filings in 2012

Despite some unfavourable conditions such as the financial crisis, applications for IP rights in Korea rose considerably during the last year. Preliminary statistics show the following figures:

• overall IP filings (patents, utility models, designs and trade marks): 400,815 (2011: 371,116)
• patent applications: 192,575  (2011: 178,924)
• utility model applications: 12,467 (2011: 11,854)
