In December 2011, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) will become the fourth member of the hitherto "Trade Mark Trilateral", an institutional co-operation consisting of the trade mark offices of the USA, Europe and Japan. The offices discuss various projects of mutual interest such as a common database of registered trade marks, the electronic exchange of priority documents or the development of common statistical indexes.
Korea will further benefit by an extended protection of traditional food names which have recently become popular around the globe, such as bibimbap or tteokbokki.
