The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) announced that it will set up a new database of traditional Korean food until late 2011. The new database shall help to prevent bio piracy such as the illegitimate patenting of inventions related to indigenous Korean food. It will contain about 3000 items including recipes and ingredients and will be integrated into the Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal (KTKP), a free online search system which is accessible both in Korean and English.
