Hong Kong: Public consultation on review of the patent system

The Government of Hong Kong has issued a consultation paper on a review of the current patent system. The public and stakeholders are invited to submit comments by 31 December 2011. Key issues for consultation are, inter alia, whether Hong Kong should originally grant its own standard patents (term: 20 years), whether the current re-registration system of EP, UK and CN patents should be maintained, whether the system of short-term patents (term: 8 years) should be retained and how it may be improved.
