Malaysia: geared to accede to Madrid Protocol by 2013

Malaysia's Ministry for Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism has announced that the country will join the Madrid System of Trademarks by 2013 and that the Ministry is in the process of amending the relevant IP legislation. As an ASEAN member country, Malaysia has committed to the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint programme, which foresees implementation of the Madrid Protocol by 2015. Currently, Singapore and Vietnam are members of the Madrid system, with Thailand and the Philippines likely to follow soon.
