Bangladesh: draft Patents Act 2011 and Designs Act 2011

At a two-day forum jointly organised by WIPO and the Bangladesh Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (DPDT), the Industries Minister of Bangladesh announced that the government had taken significant steps towards the protection and development of intellectual property in the country. The Industries Ministry has made drafts of the Patents Act 2011 and Industrial Designs Act 2011 available for stakeholders' comments. The DPDT's infrastructure has been strengthened under an automation project and new examiners have been appointed. The Minister announced that further vacancies at the DPDT would be filled in the near future. The DPDT would play a pivotal role in industrial development activities under the government's "Vision 2021" programme.
