Korea: New application system for 3d designs gaining popularity

In 2010, Korea introduced the world's first application system for 3d designs. According to an evaluation of the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), the new system has been well received by applicants during the last two years:

• The number of 3d design filings from January to October 2011 (1386) increased by 93% compared to the same period in 2010.
• The share of 3d filings in all design applications rose from 1.7% (January to October 2010) to 3.1% (January to October 2011).
• Around 93% of all 3d design applications were granted.
