New release of DOCDB XML: vs 1.5

Newsflash 08/2007 

While DOCDB XML release vs 1.4.2, introduced end of March 2007, contained mainly corrections in the documentation, the release vs 1.5 which will be launched in the beginning of August 2007 contains significant improvements in the contents of DOCDB XML.

For an easier overview on the version management of DOCDB we will in future keep older versions of the documentation; so in future you will in future find on the “manual” section of the web the versions 1.4.1, 1.4.2 and 1.5.

Here a summary of the corrections made in release 1.4.2:
   
Useful Links have been corrected to point to the correct webpages.
The following links now point to the FAQ webpage referring to

  • kind-code concordance
  • publication formats
  • application/priority formats.

The actual links to these entities tend to change names with every new release.

Documentation has been extended with ANNEX IX on Extended Kind-Code [source INP/MA/001].

The comments on DE-U Bekannmachungstag and Eintragungstag have been adjusted.

A note has been included concerning the limitation to a maximum of 99 priorities on publications added to DOCDB before September 2005.

Release vs 1.5 shows  significant improvements in the contents of DOCDB. This package will be launched on 2 August 2007 and includes the following modifications.

Dates of public availability:

The incorrect tag <date-of-public-availability> had been used for EP and WO A9 and B9
Now the new tag <modified-complete-spec-pub> has been defined for EP and WO A9 and B9.

Date fields - a schema validation issue:

A number of offices, e.g. Greek office, supply  <date-of-coming-into-force> in a format that does not comply with the definition of ICE date.

The EPO loads and exchanges these data-items in the format they have been supplied by  the provider.

Tags <date-of-coming-into-force> and <date-of-preceding-publication> have been defined as "text" instead of "ICE-date" to avoid validation errors on these fields.

Additional .csv file "data_coverage_ccyyww.csv":

This  .csv file will provide information on:

  • first publication within publication-date
  • last publication within publication-date
  • number of publications per publication-date
  • data-coverage on each bibliographic entity grouped by status, country, kind-code, publication-date.

The statistics.csv has been renamed "statistics_ccyyww.csv".
This .csv file will continue providing statistics "IFD style" for legacy purposes.

Extension of attribute "status" on <exchange-document> level:

Requests by a number of subscribers have shown that there is a need to clearly distinguish between newly published documents and withdrawn publications.
The attribute "status" has been extended with two new values to identify exchange records relating to withdrawn documents more clearly:

  • value "CV" to indicate that a withdrawn document has been added to DOCDB
  • value "DV" to indicate that a withdrawn document has been removed from DOCDB
