DOCDB XML release 2.0 rescheduled to week 10/2008

Due to many user requests the deployment of release 2.0 of DOCDB XML exchange has been rescheduled to  week 10/2008 [date-produced 6 March 2008].

Full DOCDB backfile

The backfile will be produced at the end of week 9/2008.  The publications up to and including week 09/2008 will be covered. The file will contain the family-identifier and the publication and application numbers in EPODOC format in addition to the DOCDB format.

First frontfile exchange produced under release 2.0

This exchange will contain publications updated/added/deleted in week 09/2008 and the new publications of week 10/2008. The file will contain the family-identifier, the publication and application numbers in EPODOC format in addition to the DOCDB format and the simple patent family including the abstract provided by family

Revised Packaging Strategy

High volumes of amendments due to modifications in or additions to different tables of the DOCDB (eg ECLA, ICO, abstracts) have in some instances inflated the size of the weekly DOCDB exchange to an extent that made it impossible for the subscribers to download the files within a reasonable time.  This led to delays in the update process, in particular for commercial providers. Taking into account that the bandwidth of the download area is designed for the "usual" traffic and that extensions of the bandwidth cannot easily be implemented under the given limitation of resources, an intermediary solution has to be put into operation which allows swift download of the most urgent and most important parts of the weekly DOCDB exchange, and leave the rest of it for download without time pressure.

There will be

• a dedicated archive for Create / Delete (docdb_xml_ccyyww_CreateDelete)
• a dedicated archive for Amend (docdb_xml_ccyyww_Amend)

Within each archive the current packaging strategy is maintained

Depending on the size of the Amend archive, the distribution to the subscribers will be done

• in the download area at the same time as the CreateDelete archive
• in the download area one day later than the CreateDelete archive
• on DVD only

Implementation will be done at the same time as the DOCDB XML release 2.0.

Parallel Run

Parallel run of release 2.0 against release 1.5 on genuine production data is foreseen to start week 1/2008, for a period of 12 weeks.

Release 1.5 will be produced under the current packaging strategy
