The Catalogue of Differing Practices (CDP)
provides information on the differences in practice relating, in particular, to claim interpretation, novelty, and inventive step at the Trilateral Offices (EPO, JPO, USPTO), as well as in the practice of KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office) and SIPO (State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China).
The Catalogue is an important milestone in Trilateral and Five IP offices (IP5) co-operation. For the first time, the remaining differences in substantive practice between the five largest IP offices are described and combined into one reference document. Any practice not referred to in the Catalogue can thus be considered as being substantially the same in the five Offices.
Although not yet in a form appropriate for use by examiners as a work-sharing aid, the Catalogue nevertheless represents an important reference work for experts and also serves as a useful basis for further work on harmonisation of substantive practice.
Update of 14.8.2012: The Catalogue of Differing Practices has been updated and the new version is available from the Trilateral and Five IP offices websites
