"Our aim was to make the site's structure more logical so that users, especially those who are less familiar with the EPO website, can find the information and services they need more easily," says Oswald Schröder, Principal Director of the EPO's Communication Department.
A usability test took place in March with volunteers from
some of the website's main target groups - applicants, patent attorneys and
patent office staff - to test the site's structure, design and content.
Participants commented that the new site made a "modern" and "professional"
impression, confirming the decision to "go live" with the site in
April.
The new website, while providing access to important
resources for professionals, such as the legal texts, the database of boards of appeal decisions
and the database of professional representatives in the "Patents" section, also contains information
directed at a wider audience in the "Topics" area.
