Peter A. Vermeij today takes up office as a new vice-president at the European Patent Office (EPO).

As successor to Pantelis C. Kyriakides (GB/Cyprus), who retired on 30 June, Peter Vermeij will be responsible for Directorate-General 2, Operational Support, which looks after quality management, information systems and patent administration.

Born in 1955 and of Dutch nationality, Mr Vermeij has wide management experience in public administration, including intellectual property.

As Deputy Secretary-General in the Netherlands Ministry of Economic Affairs, he was concerned mainly with administrative organisation, with the emphasis on efficiency and customer relations.  

Mr Vermeij was also responsible for various agencies of the ministry, including the Netherlands Patent Office.
