The Handbook of European Intellectual Property Management has just been published by Kogan Page in association with the European Patent Office. It was developed under the guidance of two consultant editors: business writer Adam Jolly, and the EPO's Jeremy Philpott.

This practical and comprehensive guide shows how companies can put IP at the heart of their business strategies. With almost sixty chapters, each written by a different expert in the field, the Handbook provides real-world insights into the best ways to secure, develop and exploit IP. Topics include valuing and raising finance from IP, commercialisation, litigation and enforcement, and the authors come from several national patent offices, respected law firms and key industry players.

"Good IP management is becoming more important to companies in all sectors," says Jeremy Philpott. "Understanding threats and opportunities is part of staying ahead. This Handbook equips businesses with strategic IP knowledge which will save them from costly mistakes, and bring them greater success in the future."

The book includes dedicated chapters on the IP idiosyncrasies of many European countries including the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Ireland, the Nordic states, the Benelux countries and the new EU Accession states.

Jeremy Philpott leads the Innovation Support activities of the European Patent Academy, where he organises training programmes for business audiences across Europe on topics such as patent strategies and innovation management.
