The European Patent Office (EPO) today published an overview of the regulations that will apply in various EPC contracting states after the London Agreement comes into force on 1 May 2008.

To date, thirteen EPO member states - Croatia, Denmark, Latvia, the Netherlands, France, Liechtenstein, Slovenia, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Iceland, Monaco and the United Kingdom - have ratified the London Agreement, which promises to make patenting in Europe cheaper by lowering post-grant translation costs.

The precise consequences of the London Agreement are different between the member states and are outlined in their respective national laws.

Today's publication provides an overview the requirements for post-grant translations in each of the participating states.
