The London Agreement entered into force for Lithuania on 1
May 2009, making it the 15th EPO member state to accede to the agreement.
The
London Agreement will, however, have no effect on the translation requirements
in Lithuania
because the relevant provisions are already part of domestic law and form the
basis for the national practice.
Under the agreement, which was adopted on 17 October 2000, EPC contracting states agreed to largely or entirely waive the requirement for translations of granted European patents into their national language. Some countries, including Lithuania, still require the claims to be translated.
The London Agreement has so far entered into force in Croatia, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, France, Liechtenstein, Slovenia, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Iceland, Monaco, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
