EU patent, the EPC and the Lisbon Treaty

With their decision of 4 December in the Competitiveness Council, the EU Ministers have paved the way towards a supranational patent system in Europe.

The new patent system will necessitate a revision of the European Patent Convention, while the Lisbon Treaty has a role to play in the translation arrangements for the future EU patent.
