The European Patent Office grants patents, which protect technical inventions. It does not deal with copyright.
In most countries, copyright protection is automatic. As soon as the work of art is created, it is protected and there is no need to register copyright.
All member states of the European Patent Office are also contracting parties to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, which was signed in 1886 and provided a framework for international protection.
