Trade marks are signs, symbols, letters or words that represent a company or product and serve to differentiate it from competitors. They may also consist of three-dimensional shapes, such as product packaging, or sounds, smells and colours. Registered trade marks are protected, giving the owner the exclusive right to use the symbol or phrase.

The European Patent Office deals only with patent applications and does not register trade marks.

To obtain protection for a company logo or name, you can register a trade mark at your national or regional industrial property office:
