The annual IPSDM conference is one of the most important events for IP statistics worldwide. It was initiated by the EPO and the OECD in 2006 in Vienna. This conference provides a unique forum to present the latest empirical evidence, based on patent, trade mark, design and copyright statistics, and creates an opportunity to discuss these findings with academics, consultants, publishers, statisticians, and commercial users from both the private and public sector.
Within this context, the EPO has a clear mission to provide good patent data to support industry, inventors and policy-makers in their decisions. This is why the EPO traditionally organises the PATSTAT user day, an event on the fringes of the IPSDM conference at which new and interesting features of the database can be shared with the PATSTAT community.
