In the light of technological advances in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), the European Patent Office (EPO) is looking to update its existing Guidelines to include AI patenting examples.

The first part of this conference will feature a presentation for national office examiners on the legal aspects of patenting AI and the current provisions contained in the EPO Guidelines. The second part will consist of six parallel interactive workshops, each focusing on the implications of AI for one of the following technical fields: Mobility and Mechatronics, Healthcare, Biotechnology and Chemistry or Information and Communications Technology.

The number of participants in each workshop is limited to 15. Participants will be  able to register for one of the workshops, with places allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Discussion materials will be provided in advance.

- Online conference
- Time required: 12 hours

Participants will gain an overview of the legal aspects of AI patenting and take an in depth look at the implications of AI in a specific technical field.

Participants should be familiar with the EPO's examination approach to computer-implemented inventions.
