EPO collection artist at Munich’s Haus der Kunst

Tomás Saraceno created Flying Garden (M32) for the foyer of the EPO’s PschorrHöfe building in Munich. From 17 July 2026 to 7 February 2027, a major exhibition will be on view at Haus der Kunst: Tomás Saraceno in collaboration. Ancestral Futures brings together key strands of the Argentinean artist’s works, which span art, architecture, science and ecology.
The interconnected systems that sustain life
Saraceno’s artistic practice imagines new forms of coexistence between human and non-human worlds. At Haus der Kunst, these ideas take shape through air-fuelled sculptures, multispecies habitats and immersive environments that encourage reflection on the interconnected systems that sustain life. The exhibition also includes a new commission developed in close collaboration with indigenous communities of Las Salinas Grandes in northern Argentina, addressing the pressure that lithium extraction places on the region’s water cycles.
Flying Garden (M32) entered the EPO art collection in 2007 and forms part of Saraceno’s Air-Port-City series. Made of balloons, ropes, quartz sand, tubes and a compressor, the artwork visualises alternative living structures and floating habitats. Its networked forms echo themes that continue to shape Saraceno’s work today: planetary interdependence, ecological imagination and new ways of living together.
