Documentation and coverage
Coverage, codes and statistics
The PATSTAT databases are based on four main sources of information: bibliographical data comes from the EPO worldwide bibliographic data set (DOCDB), the post grant information comes from EPO worldwide legal event data (INPADOC) and the EPO register data comes from the European Patent Register data. The citations data in DOCDB originates from the EPO’s citation database.

Coverage and codes
Understanding the coverage of a patent database is essential to validate any patent analysis. Each new PATSTAT release has more data than the previous edition and will provide more up-to-date insights.
