Aus diesen Gründen wird entschieden:
1. Die angefochtene Entscheidung wird aufgehoben.
2. Die Angelegenheit wird an die Einspruchsabteilung mit der Anordnung zurückverwiesen, das Patent in geänderter Fassung auf der Basis des mit Schriftsatz vom 2. Mai 2016 als Hilfsantrag 11 eingereichten Anspruchssatzes (Ansprüche 1 bis 29) und einer noch anzupassenden Beschreibung aufrechtzuerhalten.
