Oral proceedings in case G 1/19 before the Enlarged Board of Appeal

The EPO's Enlarged Board of Appeal has scheduled public oral proceedings in case G 1/19 for 15 July 2020. Members of the media and the public will be able to live stream the proceedings over the internet.

Background

In case T 489/14 Technical Board of Appeal 3.5.07 referred questions to the Enlarged Board of Appeal on the patentability of computer-implemented simulations. The referral is pending before the Enlarged Board as G 1/19.

The invention underlying the referral relates to a computer-implemented method, computer program and apparatus for simulating the movement of a pedestrian crowd through an environment.

Oral proceedings

The Enlarged Board of Appeal summoned the parties in case G 1/19 to oral proceedings which will take place on 15 July 2020 at 9.00 hrs in the EPO's Isar building in Munich. The language of the proceedings is English.

In the light of the current restrictions on public attendance at oral proceedings due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Enlarged Board of Appeal has decided to enable live streaming to give members of the public access to the proceedings via the internet.

To live stream the proceedings, those interested must register electronically (registration form in English) by 14 July 2020, at the latest.

Due to technical constraints, the number of persons who can register to live stream the proceedings is limited to a maximum of 3000 persons (first come, first served).
